MISSION STATEMENT
Permelia Records was founded in 2013 to encourage discussions about the relationship of music to the other creative arts. References to music abound in the theory and practice of visual art, architecture, poetry, literature, theater, dance, photography and other fields and may contribute on any of a number of levels, ranging from useful metaphor to pragmatic template. Through both recorded music and liner note essays, the products of Permelia Records hope to stimulate both interest and dialogue in a way that is not only accessible and intriguing to the layperson but also genuinely useful to the aficionado and scholar. In its support of the greater Chicago area music scene, Permelia Records is especially pleased to be able to feature and promote the noteworthy talents of up-and-coming performers and ensembles from this region through both recordings and live performances.
Music and Architecture
In February of 2013, Permelia Records released its first recording, "The Music of William C. Wright: Solo Piano and Vocal Works 1847-1893." These never before recorded compositions, written by the seldom discussed and much misunderstood composer-father of Frank Lloyd Wright, illuminate the musical mind and personality of the single-most influential figure in the architect's childhood and youth.
